Development Updates [Jan 29 2018 – Apr 05 2018]

Zusuk here… I am back!  Been extremely busy and sort of out of development for the past 1.5 months.  I can not develop as many hours as before, but I am committing to at least 3 hours a week.  Huge thanks to all the staff, especially Ornir, for really taking charge in my absence and keeping the development moving forward!  Here are some highlights of the changes in the game between the dates [Jan 29 2018 – Apr 05 2018] and below the highlights is a comprehensive list.

Player Owned Shop Adjustments

You can now buy items via index number and you can identify the items for sale for free.

Already neck-deep in LuminariMUD bugs and development, Danavan is an extremely hard working, patient and kind addition to the staff.

We are currently using Trello to help co-ordinate development between our team of developers.

Website Design Changes

Special thanks to Ornir for re-working the look of our website!  He is still working on adding more critical content that the community would like to see on the website.

New In-Game MAIL System!

Huge huge thanks to D20’s developer, Gicker, for adding a new robust in-game mailing system.  You know longer have to worry about finding postmasters to deal with mail and it also addressed a dreaded issue with losing mail.

Special thanks to Thazull for helping run some staff-ran quests which include unique and very wondrous items as rewards.

New Zone – The Depths: Scorching Desert

A very special series of new zones being developed by Treyorn is being introduced to the game via the ‘Sorching Desert.’  The zone has been placed in the wilderness and is accessible for exploring, but we have plans to tie it into the lore and main quest line very soon.  A follow up post on this zone will be coming.

New Zone Contribution Program

Yours truly started this program, and therefore, if you participate, I am the person you should bug for your rewards!  Details of the program:

We have a community project in-game to help us decide where to place zones
in the wilderness, and where to build quests ideas around. The goal is simple:
go through a zone, take good notes, submit the notes to the public Google Sheet
and receive rewards!

Event: The Tower of Green Glass

“I will respond to their knives and poisons with fire and ruination.  I will not rest till their beloved Tower is ash.  I will not relent until every last magi are dead.  Any city that houses a chapter of the tower will burn.  I will rain fire on the world until my vengeance is slaked, and then and only then will I destroy it.”

– Ah’magan the sorcerer

Over three hundred years ago the Sorcerer Ah’magan staged an attack on the Tower of Sanctus. He blamed the Chromatic Magi for the murder of his wife Sabina, his rage driving him mad. He used a variety of unique arcane techniques to wage this attack, the most formidable of these being his Flying Glass Tower.  He was defeated and killed during this engagement, but his tower was never recovered and drifted away into the skies and has not been seen again.

Until now.

Sightings of the Tower have been reported in the last few months and The Tower of Sanctus is looking for agents to deal with their old enemy.

The tower calls all interested parties to meet at 7 PM EST on Saturday, March 31 to join in the assault on the Tower of Green Glass!  Spoils will be divided among the victors!

(This event is balanced for higher level players (20+) but lower level players are welcome to attend!  This will be a challenging event with appropriate rewards.  Thank you Thazull for creating this event! See you in the game!)

The Great Hunt

A notice has been attached to the door of The Jade Jug in Ashenport:

ATTENTION! Redgar Chag, huntsmaster, has reported an overpopulation of local wildlife due to excessive culling of predator species, including the hated dire wolves.  To cull these populations before they cause irreparable harm to the local flora he has organized a GREAT HUNT to take place TWO DAYS HENCE.  As incentive, the hunter who returns with the most pelts will receive compensation, to be announced the day of the hunt.  ALL ABLE HUNTERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!

This notice is approved by signature and the seal of the Ashenport Hunters Guild.

The slanted signature and Gryphon-head seal of Redar Chag in red ink is visible on the bottom of the notice.

(Thazull will be holding a Hunting event on Monday evening at 8 PM EST – The rewards will be worth your attendance!  This event is for players of all levels!  Contact an Immortal for further information.)

The Ruined Citadel

In stories and legends, the Archmage Gnarth was renowned for his skill in Artifice and Evocation – He was among those who developed the magical arms and armor that outfitted the Armies of Hope during the Darkling Wars.  Tragically, he was also thought to be responsible for a great deal of the highly powerful magic that destroyed the ancient world in the greed-driven aftermath of the Sacrifice of the Luminari.  The stories tell that he himself was a victim of his own hubris – destroyed by the very magics he sought to employ.

In the search for a weapon to battle the coming darkling hordes, Meelka the Crone, at Alerion Lenadrian’s direction,  has discovered some strange goings on in the area where the archmage’s citadel was rumored to stand.  See Alerion in Ashenport if you would like to help her discover the secrets of Gnarth’s ancient home.  Beware, you and your friends are not the only ones interested in Gnarth’s citadel!

(This quest is for characters of level 18-21 but may be attempted by characters of lower level in a group.  This quest follows the Mosaic Cave quest and is part of the main quest line.)

Main Quest Line Extended: The Mosaic

Hello everyone!  After a long wait and a great deal of work by our staff, the next stage in the Main Quest Line has been released:

The Mosaic Cave has been an interest to all those who are fighting the rising Darkling threat.  A little-understood relic, the mosaic itself suggests a history that may come to repeat itself.  With the resources of the Lenadrian family and the entire Wizard School at her disposal, Veralis believes that she has discovered the secret of the mosaic.  What dangers and rewards lie within, locked away for millennia?  She waits at the entrance for any who will help her delve its secrets.

I want to thank all of the staff that worked hard on getting this part of the quest line complete.  Grich, for initial zone design, Zusuk for kicking all of us into gear.  Wolves and Thazull for building support and Fizban for his magical scripting skills.  Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of our testers for helping us work out the bugs and apply some polish.

Luminari MUD Development Updates 02/09/2018

Greetings!  It has been a very busy time here at Luminari and the entire staff has been very hard at work.  Here are some highlights of things we have been working on in the last couple weeks!

Player-Owned Shops

You can now purchase a shop attached to your home where you can sell crafted, looted and otherwise acquired goods.  A mobile shopkeeper will handle all transactions and the money will be waiting for you when you log in.  A new method for purchasing housing is also in the works and will be available soon.  Please contact Ornir or Zusuk if you are interested in housing or shops.

Wilderness Encounters

Trekking through the wilderness of Lumia can be rewarding, and now it can be dangerous as well!  Monsters and brigands can now stalk the wilderness areas and the unwary traveler may find themselves on the wrong end of an ambush!  Currently only the Mosswood region is populated but other encounters are being developed and will be deployed as they are ready.
