A Jotunheim quick adventure, a surprise guest!

Heya chums!!! It was the end of the evening and well into the night around 1am PST time, when it was asked in chat if people had been to Jotunheim and what we thought of it. I had only just hit 30 that day and done some exploring on the Planes previously so far but not Jotunheim (mostly because I was ignorant of its existence, and I’m a big baby). Ellyanor said she hadn’t seen it either, so we decided to have a quick look. There weren’t many other folks of a level on so the two of us decided we’d make a go of it ourselves. Prior to this fight we had fought another named giant called Hringnir, or something close to that.

I am not good at formatting logs, not sure the best way to break things up so the entirety of the fight will just get plopped here. Elly had just used Greater Animation on a giant trappers corpse for additional spellcasting backup as we had a few bodies up front to tank for us. I was super tired after we finished and just trying to make sure to get the Ymir fight as I was losing part of the adventure to the buffer, so I made sure I got the fight with Ymir.
Nothing has been removed from the log, just spaced a little to make it more readable. Enjoy!!

As you can see earlier my mirror images were soaking up his breath attacks and would continue to do so the whole fight. Which is bonkers and needs to be changed.)

Road to a Small Village ( None )
The Northern Road lies directly to the north here, and
this path swerves away from it into the woods. The line
of trees is just thick enough to allow one to see that a
small village lies behind it, the closest houses visible
through the twigs and branches. Ashenport is not too far [&]
south, and this may be one of the small farms that lies |
nearby where the farmers make use of the open lands to [,] [.]
grow crops. However, this is usually the case to the east | |
of the city, and it is perhaps unlikely that a farmer [.]-[,]-[.] [Y]
toils the land in the woods to the north of the City of
Splendor. Possibly it is just a small community that
happens to be relatively close to Ashenport. One can head
back north to the Northern Road, or continue south to see

This was so much fun!!! A ring, and a cloak dropped from Ymir. We also got a held feather standard of the ice trolls from the previous named we fought that I cannot properly remember the name of. Possibly Hringnir?? He dropped a feathered standard of the ice trolls. Elly picked the ring and I got the cloak, and the standard for my future house and they are both really sweet items. Zusuk wanted to fix them up a bit as the zone hasn’t been updated yet. After he was done with them, the ring wound up being +72hp Untyped and +1ac. The icicle cloak gives the wearer Protect Elements, +3 to Hitroll (Enhancement), +20 to Max-Move (Untyped), +2 to Armor-Class (Armor) and the ability to invoke an ice storm by command word a few times per day. Thanks Zusuk!!!

Even though Elly died and her pets dropped group (is there a way this could not happen, maybe instant poof or stay around friendly if group members are still alive??) and went berserk after eating a facefull of my Cloudkill we still managed to take Ymir down. I have to say, it was only because of mirror image, which has a few problems as a spell, but that’s for another time. I had a fresh greater mirror image up when the fight started. I had also cast the lower level mirror image spell on the mummy and dragon previously to the fight beginning, it helps so much with melee damage mitigation and their ability to tank.

I went through the text of the fight and counted after seeing Ymirs frost breath get soaked by mirror image, how many did it stop?? Ten. Ten DC 52 frost breaths!! I really should have died too. Seeing as how Ellyanor had to flee after getting hit by it three times, I am guessing they did somewhere around 140-170 damage. Ymir is supposed to be a group fight and it shows. He has 9th level druid casting (I think?) and the Frost Breath attack. It is not a spell so he can use it at will with probably a short cooldown. To take him on you really should have a full group with at least one capable healer and a tank of some sort and a deadly rogue or monk would be nice too. They can mitigate that aoe damage well and pump out the dps quite nicely.

My heart was POUNDING by the end of this fight!We plan on going back and doing a proper exploration of the place, that’s what is so great about this game!! There are still so many leveling areas I haven’t seen, or cities explored let alone end game content zones. I think there are 5 different Planes at this time and I’ve been to only two. I haven’t even properly explored them yet!! I feel like they are baby Planes from what I’ve heard about Ethereal and the others. Thanks to the developers for all their hard work, previous and continued!!! I can’t wait to see where this game goes, there is so much potential!
