hi everyone.
With the base systems for feats nearly complete, I have shifted focus slightly to address ranged feats in particular, as they will be some of the first I implement.
Here is a list of the relevant ranged combat feats:
Point Blank Shot (DONE)
Far Shot
Precise Shot
Improved Precise Shot
Uncanny Accuracy
Sharp-Shooting
Rapid Shot (DONE)
Manyshot
Greater Manyshot
Improved Manyshot
Storm of Throws
Swarm of Arrows
Note that not all of these will necessarily be implemented, nor will the implementation match 100% what is in the SRD for practical reasons.
Some details:
– Ranged combat will be allowed when in melee if you are NOT tanking, however, if the opponent is engaged there is a penalty to your attack
– Attack is based on DEX and BAB
– Multiple attacks are possible (based on BAB), in exactly the same way as with melee weapons. (Of course, no dual wield, except for hand crossbows, when they become a thing.)
– COVER and CONCEALMENT should be implemented, based on terrain type & possibly even Items in the room.
Rapid Shot – One extra attack when ENGAGED and not TANKING (unless you have Point Blank Shot). This is a MODE, as all attacks get a -2 when you use the extra shot.
Point Blank Shot – Allows ENGAGED and TANKING ranged combat.
Manyshot – Allows you to start combat UNENGAGED with multiple attacks, based on BAB.
Far Shot – Allows the firing of ranged weapons into adjacent rooms.
Some of the other feats, Greater Manyshot for example, and the swarms, allow for AOE type attacks, whenre the archer unleasheds a volley of arrows that strike all engaged/all opponents in the room.
All feats have descriptions in the SRD, if you are interested:

Please, comments and critiques are welcome, there will be some balancing issues here, but I think this will significantly improve the ranged-game on LuminariMUD. BTW; rangers gain most of these feats as they progress. You will need to choose, early on, if you want to focus on the Ranged or Two-Weapon combat styles as a ranger, and that will determine which feats you gain while progressing.
I came here to add my opinion but everything looks really good. Let me know if you need help with anything.
I’m so excited when I see the topic related to Ranged Combat! 🙂
Those list of feats sound great and can’t wait to test them out.
I have some questions, how will ranged combat work regarding to damage roll? As currently system, damage roll does not applies to ranged at all. In addition, in the current system, the damage of the bow seem depend on the arrows/quiver. Is this will be still true? If so, what will be benefits of different type of bows bring?
That all I can think of for this moment.
Keep up the GREAT work!
