Harvest nodes exist in ‘Wilderness’ (found one just outside of a zone so.. maybe it was part of the zone).

Harvesting wood sometimes gives Fossilized Eggs.

Magic Essence:
In game: help essence

Magic essence is not required to make a final item ‘magic’. A crystal will do that alone as well.

Essence helps to increase the chance for a powerful master work. Also enhancement bonus.
